Keeping the rural girls at the centre-stage of importance and with an intention of catering the need of higher education for them, our patron Hon. Narayanrao Titirmare, Founder of Shri Sudama Education Society Tumsar, took an initiative of establishing a women college for girls on 28 September, 1990, and thus Smt Gopikabai Bhure Mahila Mahavidyalaya, Tumsar came into existence. A pioneer institution for women education in the region, the college is managed by philanthropists and luminaries whose vision and support is manifested in its reputation as a premiere college in Bhandara district. A matter of pride for us is that this college was one of the first institutions in the region to face NAAC and acquire accreditation.
It is a matter of pleasure for me that the institution has completed 25 years of its success during my tenure as Principal in 2015. Since its birth, the institution has endeavored to be truthful to its vision and mission and as a result of it, we are leading providers of education for women in Bhandara district.
The institution is presently facilitating a graduation course in Arts faculty and YCM Open University courses. Since the opening of the college in 1990, girls from and around Tumsar has given a phenomenal response and presently there are two sections of B.A. part one and part second respectively. The strength of the college has always been over and above the intake capacity of the college. We are also looking forward to bring Science and Commerce streams as well as some Career Oriented Courses in the college.
We have one of the most qualified and highly educated instructors team of which about 90% of Full Time Teachers have completed their Ph.Ds. Hunger for knowledge and excellence and thirst of seeking new horizons through research is always encouraged. Simultaneously, effective delivery of curriculum and satisfaction of the learners are never compromised.
Our Mission is to cultivate noble virtues with holistic education in the girls and educate at least one girl from every family in the surrounding rural area. So far, we have striven hard to accomplish our objective to create smart, responsible and intelligent generations of girls and we have succeeded to a large extent to do so. I wish my college to take high ranks in academics and become a Centre for Excellence.
